Egill Már Guðmundsson architect
January 27th 1952 – October 10th 2019
Egill graduated from Oslo School of Architecture in 1978.
In 1997 Egill founded ARKÍS, in partnership with others. He worked at ARKÍS as architect and partner until the day of his passing. Before founding ARKÍS, Egill had operated architecture office TT3.
Egill carried out numerous architectural works, both buildings and planning projects in addition to consultation works for educational buildings. Among Egil’sn notable planning projects are: Urridaholt development, Ellidaarvogur and Husahverfi (with TT3). Most notable built architectural works are: Reykjavik University, Rimaskoli school, Stapaskoli school (currently under construction, the Icelandic Institute of Natural History, Holmen Aquatics Center in Norway, Smaratorg, Glerartorg, the Ingvar Helgason building, Ístak’s headquarters, IKEA in Vilnius, Riga and in Iceland.
Furthermore, Egill was one of the pioneers of sustainable design and planning in Iceland.
Over the last few years Egill worked on the development and design of an Erró Center at Kirkjubaejarklasutur.
Egill worked avidly on various matters for the Icelandic Association of architects and held numerous posts for the association.
