On April 4th 2013 the Minister of the Interior, Ögmundur Jónasson, led a groundbreaking ceremony for the new prison at Holmsheidi. Earthworks were put out to tender on March 9th and will begin soon. Final design is being carried out by the design team under the leadership of ARKÍS architects.
